In the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping back from their royal duties, several former staff members who worked closely with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have come forward with troubling allegations. According to Valentine Low, a royal correspondent for the London Times, Meghan Markle has been labeled a "complete narcissist" and a "sociopath" by her former royal aides. In his book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, Low details the accusations made by these staff members, including claims of bullying and the creation of a toxic work environment.
Allegations of Bullying and Fear
Low’s book sheds light on what he describes as a difficult atmosphere for royal staff working for Meghan and Harry. Former employees accused the couple of bullying and fostering a climate of fear, with many staff members reportedly feeling mistreated. Some former aides even coined the term "Sussex Survivors Club" to describe their experiences, highlighting just how negative their tenure with the Sussexes was.
Among the staff who voiced their concerns were prominent members of the royal household, including Samantha Cohen, the Sussexes' private secretary, communications chief Sara Latham, and assistant press secretary Marnie Gaffney. Cohen, who had worked for Buckingham Palace for nearly two decades, expressed that there was such high turnover within the Sussexes' team that it became nearly impossible to find replacements.
