In a controversial social media post, Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski stirred significant backlash by calling for the collection of addresses belonging to supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. His remarks, which included derogatory references to Harris and immigrants, have prompted accusations of voter intimidation and raised concerns about the sheriff's commitment to serving all constituents.

 Zuchowski's Facebook post, shared last Friday, labeled Harris as a “Laughing Hyena” and urged residents to “write down all the addresses of the people who had her signs in their yards.” He further described immigrants using the term “Illegal human ‘Locust’” and suggested that tracking the addresses of families supporting these immigrants would be beneficial.    

The sheriff’s comments alarmed many residents in Portage County, particularly against the backdrop of inflammatory rhetoric surrounding Haitian immigrants in Ohio. In response to Zuchowski’s post, some residents filed complaints with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), state and federal agencies, and even reached out to local representatives. The backlash included a notable resignation from a GOP county commissioner, who expressed discomfort with Zuchowski's leadership in a Facebook video, stating, “this is not the leadership I want to be part of.
