In a candid revelation, Sam Smith has shared the harrowing details of a severe skiing accident they experienced earlier this year, which left them unable to walk and battling with lasting physical and mental health issues.
Speaking for the first time about the incident on the Sidetracked podcast, Smith, 32, described how a torn ACL from the accident forced them to focus on their mental well-being over the past seven months.
Smith recounted the accident, noting that they had ventured onto a black slope, which was beyond their skill level, on just their second day of skiing. The result was a complete tear of the ACL, a crucial ligament in the knee that supports movement and stability. Smith was airlifted off the slope in a blood bag, a vivid description of their traumatic experience.
“I completely ripped my ACL,” Smith said. “I was skiing. I was an idiot and went on a black slope on the second day. It was the worst. It’s a permanent thing.” The singer admitted that this injury was a significant turning point, as they had never before experienced such a complete inability to move.
