On August 15, 2024, significant legal actions were announced regarding the death of actor Matthew Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends. Five individuals, including Perry’s personal assistant and two doctors, have been charged in connection with his death due to a ketamine overdose.

The Charges and Allegations

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, led by Martin Estrada, has revealed that a “broad underground criminal network” was involved in obtaining and administering the powerful anesthetic ketamine to Perry.

The investigation uncovered that the doctors, exploiting Perry’s history of addiction, provided him with dangerous amounts of the drug in the months leading up to his death.

Dr. Salvador Plasencia and Dr. Mark Chavez, both charged in the case, are accused of distributing ketamine illegally. Dr. Plasencia faces seven counts of distribution, along with two charges related to falsifying medical records posthumously.

Dr. Chavez has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy charges for funneling ketamine through fraudulent prescriptions.

Another key figure, Jasveen Sangha, dubbed the "ketamine queen," was charged for her role as a drug dealer. She allegedly supplied the ketamine that led to Perry's death. Sangha and Plasencia face severe potential sentences, with Plasencia facing up to 120 years in prison and Sangha potentially receiving a life sentence.
