Melissa Joan Hart, known for her roles on Nickelodeon, has shared a surprising and heartfelt confession about her past with Britney Spears, revealing she still feels deep regret for introducing the pop star to nightclub life at just 17. The actress opened up about this remorseful moment in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" on Thursday, as she recounted the circumstances surrounding their fateful night out.
When Hart and Spears first crossed paths, Spears was just beginning to make waves as a pop sensation. The two had met before Spears released her debut album, “…Baby One More Time,” and were doing press together. Despite the excitement surrounding Spears' rising career, Hart admits she didn’t fully grasp the implications of taking her young friend to a club.
“I was young and excited about going out, and I thought it would be fun to introduce Britney to that world,” Hart explained. “She was underage, and I should have known better. I feel really guilty about it to this day, especially since I consider myself like a big sister to her. I didn’t realize the potential consequences of that night.”
Spears, who turned 17 in December 1998, was still relatively unknown in the broader entertainment world at the time.
