At the highly anticipated Comic-Con 2024 in San Diego, Marvel broke months of secrecy and delighted fans with a slew of surprising cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. Among the crowd's electrifying reactions was a standout moment for Wesley Snipes, who made a dramatic return to his iconic role as Blade. The 61-year-old actor, who first donned the Daywalker's trench coat in 1998's Blade, was met with thunderous applause as he reprised his role in the latest film.
A Surprising Comeback
Snipes' return as Blade is a major highlight in Deadpool & Wolverine, a film that brings Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson on a multiversal adventure with Hugh Jackman’s Logan. The movie picks up six years after the events of Deadpool 2, with Wade navigating through various alternate realities. His quest to find Wolverine leads him to cross paths with several beloved characters from the Marvel universe, including Snipes' Blade.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly following the Comic-Con panel, Snipes shared his initial skepticism about returning to the role. Despite his success in the Blade trilogy—Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), and Blade: Trinity (2004)—he had moved on from the character, thinking his time as Blade had passed. However, a surprising text from Ryan Reynolds changed everything.
"I did not think it was possible," Snipes admitted.
