Jonathan Majors has expressed his heartbreak following Marvel Studios’ decision to replace him as Kang the Conqueror with Doctor Doom in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. The announcement, made at San Diego Comic-Con, revealed that the film, previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, will now focus on Victor Von Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., marking his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Majors, who had portrayed Kang in several Marvel projects, including Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was removed from the role following legal issues. He was found guilty of harassment and third-degree reckless assault, leading Marvel to drop him as the planned antagonist for the Multiverse Saga.
“Yeah, heartbroken. C’mon, yeah, of course. I love him. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though.”
Marvel Studios is now focusing on the introduction of Doctor Doom as the primary antagonist for Avengers: Doomsday and the subsequent Avengers: Secret Wars. The studio has been building excitement with successful releases like Deadpool and Wolverine, while also preparing for major projects and shows.
The future of Kang within the MCU remains uncertain, but Majors's hope for a return keeps the possibility alive.
As the MCU shifts its focus to new threats and storylines, fans will be watching to see if Kang—or Jonathan Majors—finds a way back into the Marvel universe.
