Candace Cameron Bure Thought The Olympics Opening Ceremony Was ‘Disgusting’ And She Did Not Hold Back: ‘It Made Me Sad’!
The Olympic Opening Ceremony this year has sparked significant controversy, particularly among Christian viewers, due to a fashion show segment that some perceived as an inappropriate reference to The Last Supper. The segment, which featured drag queens and a naked singer painted blue, was criticized for its visual similarities to Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting of Jesus's last meal with his disciples.
However, the organizers later clarified that the segment was inspired by Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, not The Last Supper. Despite this, the backlash has been considerable.
Among the most vocal critics was Candace Cameron Bure, known for her work with Hallmark and now a prominent figure at Great American Family.
In a detailed video response, Bure expressed her disapproval, calling the segment “disgusting” and saying it made her “sad.” She emphasized that the Olympics, which have traditionally brought her joy, were tarnished by what she perceived as a blasphemous portrayal. “The Olympic Games have always brought me so much joy. It’s the best of the best athletes in the world competing for the title. So to watch such an incredible and wonderful event and see the opening ceremony completely mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of The Last Supper was disgusting and it made me so sad,” she said.
