Luke Newton, the charming actor who plays Colin Bridgerton, is no stranger to causing a stir among the Ton. But this season, the heat is turned up as his character sheds his boyish demeanor and finally embraces his passionate connection with Penelope Featherington.
In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Newton opens up about the challenges and rewards of playing Colin in his most revealing season yet, and how the experience has mirrored his own personal growth.
Newton admits to feeling a sense of excitement and relief at finally getting to explore Colin's romantic side.
"It felt like the right time to tell this love story," he shared. "If we’d waited for another season, I think viewers would’ve been fed up."
Gone is the awkward, unsure Colin of previous seasons. Season 3 introduces a more mature, confident version of the character – a transformation that Newton embodies with newfound swagger.
"Last season, he was this awkward coming-of-age guy who hadn’t quite found his place in the world," revealed showrunner Jess Brownell. "And all of a sudden, he’s back with this swagger and confidence."
But as Newton points out, this newfound confidence masks a deeper vulnerability.
"He really doesn’t fit in with being one of the lads," Newton explains.
