Vhagar, one of the most iconic dragons in Westeros, has a long and storied history filled with fire, blood, and tragic ends. Over her nearly two centuries of life, she served several dragonriders, each of whom left their own mark on history, often in dramatic and violent ways.
5. Prince Aemond Targaryen (129 AC - 130 AC)ADVERTISEMENT
The final, and perhaps most infamous, rider of Vhagar was Prince Aemond Targaryen. Aemond claimed Vhagar after the tragic death of Laena Velaryon, and his bond with the ancient dragon would lead to some of the bloodiest events of the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Aemond’s flight on Vhagar during the Battle Above the Gods Eye was his last, resulting in both of their deaths as Vhagar locked jaws with Daemon Targaryen’s Caraxes, sending both dragons plummeting into the lake below.
4. Laena Velaryon (115 AC - 120 AC)
Before Aemond, Vhagar was ridden by Laena Velaryon, the wife of Daemon Targaryen. Laena claimed Vhagar while still young, and the two shared a close bond that saw them fly across the Free Cities of Essos, dazzling onlookers with the sheer majesty of Vhagar.
